Oral Hygienic Management and Attitude of Patients with Periodontal Disease

Abstract
|

|
This study was performed to investigate the degree of the oral hygienic management and attitude of patients with periodontal disease. Total of subjects, 72 patient with gingivitis and 78 patient with periodontitis, were participated by a questionary from the first January to the 15th of March in 2006. It was just 35.7% patients with gingivitis and 34.3% patients with periodontitis that had oral hygienic management education about periodontal disease. Among patients having this
education, 34.7% patients with gingivitis and 31.9% patients with periodontitis said they could acquire could acquire a number of information through dental hospitals, and 31.9% and 34.7% respectively could do through media such as newspapers, TV or radio. In this result, we could find that dental hospitals and mass have a great effect on acquiring the
knowledge. 62.5% patients with gingivitis and 70.5% patients with periodontitis liked carbonated drinks or soft drinks. The latter seemed to more like harmful foods in the oral hygienic. Among patients with periodontal disease, 56.9% patients with gingivitis usually brushed their teeth three times a day and 50.0% patients with periodontitis twice a day. In the attitude of oral cavity management, 88.2% patients with gingivitis and 76.2% patients with periodontitis thought they had to brush before they ate something ; the rate of the former was a little higher than that of the latter. In addition , 52.5% patients with
gingivitis and 47.3% patients with periodontitis thought they had to scrape their teeth regularly ; the rate of the former was higher. From the above result, it would be important to support various chance of preventive education and to develop the preventive education program for preventing the periodontal disease.
